Never have I heard of a job connection on LinkedIn, but a good friend of mine just asked, "What's LinkedIn for, anyway?" after I 'connected' with him over through LinkedIn.
But, I'll give it a try. In summary, good advice is to:
- Complete your profile
- Update your profile
- Connect, Connect, and Connect
- Give References (in order to get them)
- Make a Group
